An Animated History of Enfield

An Animated History of Enfield was a National Lottery Heritage Funded creative animation project delivered in partnership with the Dugdale Centre. The project ran in 2025 and worked with six Enfield primary schools, supporting children to explore and re imagine local history through stop motion animation.

Pupils used stop motion animation in a cut style to bring their ideas to life. They developed original stories inspired by local history, created storyboards, designed and made characters and backgrounds, animated frame by frame, and added sound and narration. The workshops encouraged teamwork, creativity and confidence, while giving pupils the opportunity to develop new digital and artistic skills.

The project helped young people connect with Enfield’s rich and varied heritage. By exploring people, places and events from their local area, pupils developed a stronger sense of place and pride in their community, while learning how history can be shared in engaging and imaginative ways.

The finished animated films were screened at Cineworld Enfield and showcased at the Dugdale Centre, as well as being shared with schools, families and the wider community. The project created a lasting digital legacy that captured Enfield’s history through the voices and ideas of its youngest residents.
